Marisa Youngs has been an adjunct professor of music in Winthrop's College of Visual and Performing Arts since 2018. She currently teaches applied trumpet lessons and various music theory and ear training courses in the Department of Music. In 2021, she received the Adjunct Professor Excellence in Teaching Award from the CVPA Dean's Council.

Primarily a professional trumpet player, Marisa performs throughout the Carolinas with various orchestras and chamber music ensembles. She has also performed across the United States, Europe, and Australia as a soloist, and with orchestras and numerous chamber groups. She is an advocate for new music, and currently serves as Chair of the New Works Committee for the International Trumpet Guild (ITG).

In addition to her teaching duties at Winthrop, Marisa is highly sought-after as an educator throughout the East Coast. She previously taught courses and music ensembles at the University of Kentucky and Boston University. She also leads clinics and teaches students at various colleges, high schools, and summer festivals. Many of her former students have earned graduate teaching assistantships, college scholarships, and other leadership awards.

Marisa recently joined the MAAA program as a research writing professor. Her most recent in-depth writing project was her dissertation at the University of Kentucky, where she completed IRB-approved research to determine possible links between linguistics and trumpet playing. She has had several academic articles published in the ITG journal, a popular pedagogical publication for trumpet players. Marisa is also a freelance writer for Sky Publishers, where she is responsible for research, content creation, and editing of various online articles. She has experience with the arts, science, law, and numerous other topics.

Marisa holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Trumpet Performance from the University of Kentucky, where she was a teaching assistant and academic research fellow. She also earned a Master of Music in Trumpet Performance from Boston University and a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Marisa lives in Rock Hill, SC with her partner Courtney and their furry family: Rylee, Nova, Lenny, and Tonks.
