THEATRE & DANCE

Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Theatre

  • Students will demonstrate the ability to think conceptually and critically about text, performance, and production.
  • Students will demonstrate Intermediate to advanced competence in one or more theatre specializations in production, performance, scholarship, or teaching.
  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of procedures and approaches for realizing a variety of theatrical styles.
  • Students will demonstrate development of dance and movement skills appropriate to musical theatre (Musical Theatre Emphasis).
  • The student will be an effective decision maker in directing the education of students (K-12 Teacher Certification Emphasis) 

Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Dance

  • Students will demonstrate dance technique proficiency in the respective required technique series (Modern and Ballet) in the BA Dance degree curriculum.
  • Students will choreograph a dance work and prepare that work for public presentation.
  • Students will learn the science of dance movement and apply that knowledge to foster the longevity of the dancer.
  • Students should identify and demonstrate effective strategies for entry-level pedagogy in selected dance forms/styles.
  • Students will apply technique and personal creative expression in performance as appropriate to a particular choreographic work.

FINE ARTS

Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Art Education (K-12 Teacher Certification)

  • Students will model both traditional processes and newer technical developments in creating art, documenting art, and creating art education curriculum
  • Students will apply historical and contemporary perspectives of art and design to art education.
  • Students will synthesize learning experiences that demonstrate preparation for K12 art education certification. Formulate and compile a satisfactory preparation for art education certification K12.
  • Students will create connections between Art Education in practice and the expectations of the Visual Arts edTPA (external evaluation for certification).  
  • Students will communicate the benefit of arts education and arts programs to colleagues, administrators, and parents.
  • Students will exhibit personal and professional qualities appropriate to an art educator.

Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Art History

  • Students will be able to identify works of art, artistic styles, and art historical movements throughout history and across the globe.
  • Students will demonstrate knowledge of the tools and techniques of art historical scholarship through completion of written research papers.
  • Students will apply major critical theories and methodologies in the discipline.
  • Students will demonstrate knowledge of the art history of non-Western cultures.

Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Art

  • Students will create work using basic design principles, concepts, media, and formats.
  • Students will demonstrate self-promotion skills and professional fine art competencies
  • Students will utilize digital technology for purposes of creating, documenting, and presenting art work.
  • Students will communicate (orally and in written format) aesthetic descriptions and concept analyses
  • specific to the Fine Arts.
  • Students will classify works of art by historical, cultural and stylistic contexts.

Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) in Studio Arts

  • Students will apply basic design principles, concepts, media, and formats in their work within the various fine arts disciplines.
  • Students can conceive, design, and create a body of work that is expressed through more than one studio discipline.
  • Students will relate various aesthetic issues, processes, and media to the conceptualization, development, and completion of works of art.
  • Students will communicate ideas inherent to their creative practice.
  • Students will analyze the common elements and vocabulary of art, as well as the interaction of these elements, perceptively and critically.
  • Students will classify works of art by historical, cultural and stylistic contexts.
  • Students will utilize technologies and equipment applicable to their area(s) of specialization.
  • Students will model independent thought processes and professional competence in their chosen studio art emphasis/emphases.

Master of Fine Arts (MFA) in Studio Art

  • Students will develop cognitive and technical skills to create a series of creative works at a graduate level derived from personal interests and research.
  • Students will have the ability to conceive, design, and create works in more than one studio discipline and the expertise to move fluidly between media.
  • Students will gain a comprehensive understanding and awareness of contemporary art practices, issues, and movements and the ability to contribute to the expansion and evolution of these fields.
  • Students will be able to clearly and effectively communicate ideas inherent to their creative practice to the art/design communities, the public, and in formal or informal teaching situations. 

DESIGN

Bachelor of Design (BDes) in Graphic Design

  • Students will develop concepts and design solutions for a wide range of contemporary visual communications and systems problems
  • Students will effectively use typography, images, symbols, diagrams, motion, sequencing, color, and any other elements in the contexts of specific design projects.
  • Students will be fluent in the use of formal vocabulary and concepts of design including content, elements, and principles of visual design, style, structure, and technology.
  • Students will have knowledge of the history of art, architecture, graphic design, and illustration as well as understanding of the influences of work and ideas on the evolution of contemporary design practice.
  • Students will use technology appropriate to design problems and develop a functional understanding of how to continue to learn technology, understanding it as constantly changing.
  • Students will gather, research, analyze, and apply findings to inform their design process and to guide their development of prototypes in order to solve design problems.
  • Students will demonstrate awareness of the impact of design decisions on people, communities, the environment and the future.
  • Students will demonstrate knowledge of ethical behaviors, professional design practices and processes including working collaboratively in interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary teams.
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to apply strategies for planning, producing, and disseminating visual communications including team and client presentations.

Bachelor of Design (BDes) in Interior Design

  • Students will be able to apply knowledge of human experience and behavior to designing the built environment.
  • Students will be able to apply design elements and principles of design in 2 and 3-dimensional design solutions.
  • Students will be able to gather information, conduct and apply research using theories and methodologies concerning the interior design practice, environmental impact, and human wellbeing.
  • Students will be able to select lightings, colors, furnishings, products, materials, and finishes effectively.
  • Students will have an understanding of the technical aspects of construction and building systems including energy conservation, acoustics, thermal comfort, indoor air quality, and water systems.
  • Students will be able to communicate concepts and specifications in verbal, written, and multiple media.
  • Students will be able to produce contract documents applying legal codes and specifications demonstrating knowledge of schedules and regulations.
  • Students will acquire collaborative skills and the ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary teams to solve complex problems.
  • Students will have an understanding of the history of interior design, architecture, decorative arts, and art and influences to the current design and society.

Bachelor of Design (BDes) in Illustration

  • Students will demonstrate fluency in the use of visual vocabulary and drawing techniques, with a focus on form and narrative.
  • Students will use analog and digital drawing tools, techniques, and processes to produce work from concept to finished illustrations, developing their own style.
  • Students will solve design problems with an understanding of professional practices and processes, such as intellectual property and ethical issues.
  • Students will understand how art and design theories, principles, and processes have evolved through time, and apply those issues and influences to their own work.
  • Students will develop a functional understanding of using technology and software for creative practices, becoming life-long technology learners.

MUSIC

Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Music

  • Students will be able to demonstrate their understanding and progress in musicality/interpretation, technique, rhythm/tempo, accuracy, memorization, diction (voice), articulation (instrumental), tone quality, and intonation through their performances in applied music juries, recital hearings, and recitals.

Bachelor of Music (BM)

  • Students will be able to demonstrate their understanding and progress in musicality/interpretation, technique, rhythm/tempo, accuracy, memorization, diction (voice), articulation (instrumental), tone quality, and intonation through their performances in applied music juries, recital hearings, and recitals.
  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of the elements of music, including musicianship, analysis and synthesis.

Bachelor of Music Education (BME) - Choral or Instrumental (K-12 teacher certification)

 
  • Students will be able to demonstrate their understanding and progress in musicality/interpretation, technique, rhythm/tempo, accuracy, memorization, diction (voice), articulation (instrumental), tone quality, and intonation through their performances in applied music juries, recital hearings, and recitals.
  • Students will demonstrate competencies in professional education and in specific areas of musicianship to prepare for a career in teaching music (K-12). 

Master of Music (MM) in Music (Conducting)

  • Students will be able to demonstrate advanced understanding of the aspects of musicianship, conducting technique, rehearsal technique, and wind or choral literature.
  • Students will demonstrate an advanced understanding of the elements of music, including musicianship, analysis, and synthesis, including the ability to make artistic and professional judgments based on this understanding.
  • Students will demonstrate an advanced understanding of music history and literature and the synthesis of that information, including the ability to make artistic and professional judgments based on this understanding.

Master of Music (MM) in Music (Peformance)

  • Students will demonstrate an advanced understanding of music history and literature and the synthesis of that information, including the ability to make artistic and professional judgments based on this understanding.

Master of Arts (MA) in Arts Administration

  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of historical development and strategic planning for non-profit arts organizations.
  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of fiscal sustainability and institutional development for non-profit arts organizations.
  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of and skills in production, distribution, and marketing of the arts.
  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of and skills in advocacy and community relations for the arts.
