The Rocha, Nicaragua Project provides students with wonderful opportunities to give
back to a developing country that is making its way back from civil war and underdevelopment.
It also provides ways for students to learn about poverty, underdevelopment, and ways
to overcome underdevelopment in the 21st century.
Each year students travel to Nicaragua with Winthrop University professors to undertake
service-learning projects through interdisciplinary opportunities. Trips vary in length
but are usually from one week to ten days long.
Starting in Spring 2020, the Winthrop University Rocha Project is gifting goats to women in several rural Nicaraguan communities. The purpose is to help them save
money to send their children to school. You can make a tax deductible donation to
help us! To make an online contribution, please click on the "Make an Online Gift" button below. Choose the amount you would like to pledge under Gift Details. In
the drop down menu next to Gift Designation, please select "other". In the additional space provided, write the name and number: "Rocha Project Fund - 1567." Please complete the rest of the form with your contact information and payment details.
