Master of Arts in Teaching Traditional Track Deadline: No deadline,  rolling admission

Note: All admission materials must be received by the Graduate Studies office before an application will be reviewed.

Application requirements for the Master of Arts in Teaching program include:

• The online Graduate Studies application with the non-refundable application fee.

• Official transcript(s) from all institutions attended for undergraduate and graduate coursework. Transcripts must be sent directly to Winthrop's Graduate Studies office from the issuing institution(s). 

• Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale OR official test scores for either:

  • GRE (preferred scores are 151 Verbal, 153 Quantitative) OR Miller Analogies Test (preferred score of 392)

• Applicants to the MAT degree in Spanish and French must also submit the South Carolina passing score on the Praxis AND evidence of having the ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview. It is recommended that applicants show proficiency at the advanced low level. Graduate coursework will not be focused directly on continued language learning.

• Students who have ever been removed from or received an unsatisfactory or failing grade in a school field placement or internship must provide a statement about the circumstances to be considered as part of the application. This statement must address the areas of concern from the field placement or internship, goals for the upcoming field experiences and internship, should they be admitted, and steps candidates will take to meet the established goals.

Note: Graduate candidates who do not meet all undergraduate certification requirements will be required to complete additional course work.
