Learning Excellent Academic Practices (LEAP) Program

About the Program

The Learning Excellent Academic Practices (LEAP) Program is designed to assist students in making a successful transition from high school to college. The program provides academic guidance and support to a select group of freshman students at Winthrop University. LEAP has an excellent track record for promoting academic success.

The core components of LEAP include:

Individual academic advising support. This support begins the summer before students begin their first semester at Winthrop and continues throughout students’ first year.

Structured study halls with tailored tutoring available. These study halls are designed exclusively to support LEAP students in their academic coursework by providing personalized guidance and study assistance. These required study halls will meet from 6:30 – 8:30 pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

Access to a personal success coach. Many first-year students have lot of questions about campus resources and services, and students might not know who to contact. The LEAP coordinator will provide guidance to each LEAP participant throughout their freshman year in order to ensure students can easily access the many resources Winthrop has to offer.
