Winthrop Monolith Being Installed

Installed Aug. 13, 2010, this stainless steel piece – a boat with dramatic rods emerging – acts as a stunning visual centerpiece for the Hardin Family Garden. Fine arts faculty members Shaun Cassidy and Tom Stanley collaborated to create the “Winthrop Monolith.” Art major Matt Horick of North Charleston, S.C., also contributed to the project. The piece conceptually links both ends of Scholars Walk, and the sculpture and its setting combine a stainless steel monolith and a cast concrete and stone landscaped river walk. Mac Leitner, Wes Love and Tommy Woodson assisted in the installation of “Winthrop Monolith.”
