The evaluation of transfer credit is conducted by the student services office in each college. Upon acceptance, a copy of the college transcript(s) is forwarded to the appropriate student services office as indicated by your choice of degree program on the admissions application. Information on the transfer of credit will be available at http://wingspan.winthrop.edu/ after an evaluation has been completed. Note that transfer course information can be revised upon a review by the applicable student services official.
You should not expect to receive credit for all courses taken at previous institutions. Transfer credit will generally be awarded if Winthrop offers an equivalent course and the course was completed with a grade of C- or higher. Transfer courses can be classified as general education credit, degree credit, or elective credit.
Winthrop University is accredited by the commission on colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award bachelor's, master's and specialist degrees. Winthrop University does not automatically evaluate transfer credit from an institution that is not accredited by the commission on colleges or higher education of a regional accrediting agency. If you have attended a college or university that does not have the accreditation referenced above, all of the courses taken at that college will have to be evaluated on an individual basis by staff in the office of student services in the college under which your intended major resides.
If you are interested in a review of courses taken at a college or university that is not regionally accredited, you can submit a request to the applicable office of student services listed below. If an evaluation cannot be completed based upon the course descriptions in the institution's catalog, you will be asked to provide course syllabi.
