Dr. Anselmo is an assistant professor of psychology at Winthrop. He currently teaches
undergraduate courses in the psychology department and is part of the graduate teaching
faculty in the School Psychology Graduate Program at Winthrop. Before becoming a
full time faculty member in 2019, Dr. Anselmo taught at Winthrop in an adjunct capacity
since 2004. After obtaining his degrees in school psychology, Dr. Anselmo worked
as a nationally certified school psychologist in Cleveland County, NC for 15 years.
He served many roles within the school system including: serving students and families
in preschool through high school settings, Responsiveness to Instruction (RtI) coordinator,
Lead RtI school psychologist, and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support Program Specialist.
Dr. Anselmo currently teaches courses in disorders of childhood and adolescence,
psychological tests and measurements, and supervision courses within the school psychology
program. Research interests include: placement models for specific learning disabilities,
reliability and validity of curriculum-based measurements, and social-emotional risk
screening measures. Dr. Anselmo is currently a member of the National Association
of School Psychologists, North Carolina School Psychologists Association, and the
South Carolina Association of School Psychologists. He is also a licensed Psycho-Educational
Specialist in South Carolina.
