Ecology of Non-human Primates
Dr. Brasington is a primatologist interested in evolutionary explanations of non-human primate behavior. Her research centers on questions based in intersexual conflict theory, including impacts of infanticide and the role of allonursing. Working under Dr. Katharine Jack, co-director of the Santa Rosa Primate Project, Dr. Brasington uses long-term data from a population of white-faced capuchin monkeys in northwestern Costa Rica to address these questions. In addition to the capuchins, Dr. Brasington has studied saki monkeys in the Amazon rainforest (alongside professor emerita Dr. Janice Chism) and captive gorillas and mandrills.
