Dr. Dimaculangan is a professor of biology. He received his Ph.D. in molecular and
cellular biology at the University of South Carolina and completed an National Institutes
of Health (NIH) postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania School of
Medicine in Philadelphia, Pa., prior to joining the faculty at Winthrop in 1994. His
research interests while at Winthrop have centered most recently on the molecular
mechanisms of cytoplasmic male sterility in tomato plants and the cellular effects
of oxidative stress in a 3-D cardiac tissue culture system.
Dimaculangan previously served as the director of Undergraduate Research for Winthrop
University, and he is Winthrop's representative to the National Conference on Undergraduate
Research and the Big South Undergraduate Research Symposium.
