Dr. O. Jennifer Dixon-McKnight is an Assistant Professor of History and African American Studies and serves as Program Coordinator for the African American Studies Minor. She is also the director of Project 2020: A Collaborative Oral History, which is an oral history project that explores various aspects of the pivotal year 2020 and its impact on American society. Dr. Dixon-McKnight teaches courses in African American History, African American Studies and United States History. She engages with students outside the classroom in her role as faculty advisor to the Association of Ebonites, Winthrop’s oldest African American student organization, and Gamma Beta Phi National Honor Society.
Her research interests include African American History, United States History, and Women’s and Gender History, with a particular focus on using Oral History to examine social movements forged by African American women. Dr. Dixon-McKnight is currently working on a book project that examines the 1969 Charleston hospital workers campaign and the hundreds of African American working-class women who forged the movement.
Dr. Dixon-McKnight has been recognized as the 2023 Outstanding Junior Professor. She has also been awarded the Division of Student Affairs Faculty Student Life Award in Spring 2023.
