Dr. Hamm received a BS in Mathematics with a minor in Secondary Education from Berry College in Rome, Georgia in 2006. She then received a Master's degree in Mathematics from Wake Forest University in 2008. She taught for one year at Griffin High School in her hometown of Griffin, Georgia and then returned to graduate school. Dr. Hamm received her doctorate in mathematics from Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 2014 and began working at Winthrop University upon graduation.
Dr. Hamm is interested in teaching a variety of courses but some that excite her the most are Introduction to Proofs, Modern Algebra, Number Theory, Combinatorics, and ACAD 101. She also enjoys working with students on undergraduate research projects. Her mathematical research interests include anti-Ramsey theory, group theory, and graph theory. She is also involved in research concerning effective teaching and learning. Overall, her favorite part of teaching at Winthrop is her students and the relationships formed with them!
Dr. Hamm is passionate about mathematical outreach as well! She has hosted a number of community outreach events including Sonia Kovalevsky Days, math summer camps, math days for local elementary schools, and more. She loves any opportunity to share the beauty of mathematics with others.
In her free time Dr. Hamm enjoys spending time with her husband, who also works in the Winthrop math department, their two children Joshua and Lily, and their dog Hugo. She also loves spending time with her friends and family! She enjoys cooking, reading, running, singing, and learning!
