Tony Hobert was born in New Orleans and grew up in Louisiana and Kentucky. He studied Philosophy at Berea College (whenever he wasn't playing rugby or ultimate frisbee) and graduated in 2006.
For the next several years, he worked in hospice care, taught ecology and astronomy on Cape Cod, taught preschool, and was a librarian and habilitation worker in Pima, Arizona. In 2012 he earned a Master's Degree in the Art of Teaching (Social Sciences) from the University of Southern California's Rossier School of Education.
He and his wife, Sarah, spent 10 wonderful years in Roseburg, Oregon, where he taught History and U.S. Government and did whatever he could (tutor, referee, chess coach, director, etc.) for the Boys & Girls Club of the Umpqua Valley.
He earned his PhD in Political Science at the University of South Carolina. His primary field of interest was public law, and specifically, he studies U.S. Supreme Court indigenous rights jurisprudence. Though generally curious, his research has focused on just war theory, fringe political movements, constitutional theory, political legacies, judicial decision making, and forms of political reasoning.
If he were not studying/teaching Political Science, he would likely be studying/teaching mythology, religion, English literature, physics, and/or cinema. His two children, Louis (7) and Judith (5), keep him busy.
