Faculty & Staff Profiles

Dr. Richardson received both her B.A. and M.A. from Winthrop University before completing her Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2001. At Winthrop, she teaches a variety of writing and literature courses. She currently serves as the Director of Composition (a role she also held in 2005-2011). Her research interests are broad as they include topics related to literature, popular culture, and pedagogy; however, her primary scholarly focus is in nineteenth-century American Literature. She is particularly interested in examining how oceanic settings affect narrative and character construction as well as reflect historical contexts. Recent publications include contributions to Herman Melville in Context and Mark Twain in Context, both published by Cambridge University Press. She is currently working on a project focused on the work of nineteenth-century writer Celia Thaxter.
