Marilyn Sarow is a professor emerita of mass communication and previously served as the interim chair of the Department of Mass Communication. She also previously served as the assistant to the Vice President for Academic Affairs/Provost Office for seven years.She was involved in the development of the integrated marketing communication major.

Dr. Sarow holds an MA in journalism from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, and a PhD in mass communications from University of South Carolina.She also spent 10 years working in higher education and health care public relations.

Dr. Sarow teaches introductory and senior seminar courses in integrated marketing communication, advertising principles, public relations principles and public relations writing.She has also taught courses in University College.

She is the co-author of two books, Integrated Business Communication in a Global Marketplace and Cancer Activism: Gender Media and Public Policy, as well as four book chapters, several convention papers, and published articles including several at international forums.Her dissertation received an award of excellence for student research and she was recognized with the Faculty Student Life Award in 2011. 

She has played a leadership role in the development of the Global Learning Initiative, the development of the general education program, and the creation of the development of a variety of university policies and standards.
