Dr. Sleigh is a professor in the Department of Psychology at Winthrop. She received her doctorate in developmental psychology from Virginia Tech in 1996 and did a postdoctoral fellowship at Indiana University. She directed the Psychology Honors Program at George Mason University prior to joining the faculty at Winthrop in 2003.

Sleigh has taught a range of classes but most regularly Research Methods, Biopsychology, and Learning. Her research interests focus on neonatal development, teaching effectiveness, and helping undergraduates gain research experience. She has reviewed for and published in referred journals such as Teaching of Psychology, Psi Chi Journal of Psychological Research, Developmental Psychobiology, and Journal of Comparative Psychology. Sleigh is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Psychological Inquiry. She previously served as Southeastern Vice-President for Psi Chi and is currently serving a three-year term in the presidential role.

Sleigh received the 2008 College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Outstanding Advisor Award and the 2010 Psi Chi Regional Faculty Advisor Award. In 2011, she received the Southeastern Psychological Association Mentor Award, the Florence Denmark Psi Chi Faculty Award, and the Kinard Teaching Award. Most recently, she was selected as the 2015 recipient of the Kendra Ogletree Cusaac Outstanding Psychology Professor from the South Carolina Psychological Association and the CAS Undergraduate Research Mentor Award. Her student collaborators have won numerous regional and national awards for their research.
