Greetings from the Department of Social Work Undergraduate Program. Our program has been providing rich educational experience since 1974. Students are exposed to a robust curriculum that is grounded in social work values and ethics. They are taught by well-trained professors who are known statewide and nationally for their research, and service. The program also offers a range of experiential activities, as well as enriching field placement and study abroad opportunities. Students who graduate from our program are critical thinkers, globally minded and committed to advancing social justice. They are also well equipped for graduate school or employment in a range of social service agencies.

The Bachelor of Social Work degree (B.S.W.) at Winthrop University offers a strong professional practice curriculum that builds on a sound liberal arts base. It prepares students to move directly into social work positions in a wide range of settings, engaging in generalist social work practice at the individual, family, group, community and organizational levels, or to pursue graduate social work education. The program is nationally accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), allowing graduates to become full members of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).
A large number of Winthrop graduates go on to social work graduate programs, either immediately upon completing their undergraduate degree or after a few years of working in the social work field. Graduates of our program have a high acceptance rate, and the social work department receives consistent feedback that Winthrop graduates are extremely well prepared for graduate education. Students enroll in a variety of graduate programs.
