Graduate Degree Options

Accounting majors typically aspire to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Because this requires 150 hours of college credit in South Carolina, many accounting majors continue into graduate school to earn the credits required to sit for the CPA exam, or to pursue an MBA or law degree. Winthrop offers the Master of Business Administration Degree (MBA) with an Accounting Emphasis. The MBA provides students with the hours and discipline content to successfully complete the CPA examination and, after completing the necessary experience requirements, become certified.

There is also a shortage of accounting faculty so pursuing a PhD in accounting is an excellent career path.

In addition to continuing their studies at Winthrop University, graduates have attended:

  • Clemson University
  • University of South Carolina
  • University of Tennessee
  • University of Georgia
  • Virginia Tech University
