Accrediting Organizations

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree at Winthrop University is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of ABET (www.abet.org). ABET is the premiere accreditor for college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and technology. 

Computer Information Systems is a concentration within the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree, which is administered by the College of Business and Technology.  The college is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (www.aacsb.edu), the premiere business school accrediting organization.

Winthrop University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (www.sacscoc.org).


Mission Statements

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree prepares students for careers in software design and implementation and for graduate study in Computer Science. The students in this program are provided with a background that allows them to progress toward leadership roles.

The mission of the Computer Information Systems concentration of the B.S. in Business Administration degree is to educate students in the principles and practices of computer information systems, preparing them for careers in the software development and computer information systems industries.


B.S. in Computer Science Student Learning Outcomes

Student outcomes describe what students are expected to know and be able to do by the time of graduation. These relate to the knowledge, skills, and behaviors that students acquire as they progress through the program.

Graduates of the program will have an ability to:

  1. Analyze a complex computing problem and to apply principles of computing and other relevant disciplines to identify solutions.
  2. Design, implement, and evaluate a computing-based solution to meet a given set of computing requirements in the context of the program’s discipline.
  3. Communicate effectively in a variety of professional contexts.
  4. Recognize professional responsibilities and make informed judgments in computing practice based on legal and ethical principles.
  5. Function effectively as a member or leader of a team engaged in activities appropriate to the program’s discipline.
  6. Apply computer science theory and software development fundamentals to produce computing-based solutions.

B.S. in Computer Science Program Objectives
