Students majoring in theatre at Winthrop University will experience a program that encourages a breadth of knowledge that includes production work as well as performance. All theatre majors have opportunities to assume artistic leadership roles during their academic careers in the department. Advanced students take on lead acting roles, design duties, stage management positions, technical direction responsibilities, box office management, direction, and more. Very few undergraduate programs offer these many opportunities for students to perform, design, direct, choreograph, stage manage, and run productions.

Students continue with focused coursework in voice, acting and movement/dance, and they select a minor to complement their theatre studies.
Students continue with focused coursework in acting and pursue advanced courses in musical theatre, including voice and dance, and they select a minor to complement their theatre studies.
Students pursue advanced courses in design (costume, lighting, scenic) and stagecraft, and they select a minor to complement their theatre studies.
Students pursuing the focused, professional degree program in teacher education take advanced courses in pedagogy, acting, directing, and theatre production.
Our theatre program is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre.
Each year, the department presents three theatre main stage productions and as many as six studio dance/theatre productions and other informal performances.
Students seeking employment after graduating with a degree in theatre education have a 100 percent job placement rate.
