Bachelor of Science
The Bachelor of Science in Educational Studies is a degree with multiple concentrations from which degree candidates can choose, including concentrations in early childhood, elementary, middle level, physical, and special education. While this degree does not provide an opportunity for teacher certification, it could be a pathway to the Master of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.) degree for students who eventually want to earn certification at the graduate level. Additionally, the Educational Studies major provides a flexible pathway for students interested in educational settings that do not require teacher certification, such as community programs and museums.

Educational Studies students choose one of the following concentrations and then a minor or second concentration.
The early childhood education concentration includes 18 hours of foundational courses focused on the needs of young children in grades pre-k through 3.
The elementary education concentration includes 18 hours of courses focused on the needs of children in grades 2-6.
Students in this concentration will take an introduction to the middle school and courses in adolescent literature, composition theory and pedagogy, and more.
Students in this concentration will take an introduction to the middle school and courses in discrete mathematics, algebra or calculus, and statistics.
Students in this concentration will take an introduction to the middle school and lab sciences in three areas: biology, chemistry, geology and earth sciences, or physics.
Students in this concentration will take an introduction to the middle school and courses in history, economics, government, and geography.
The physical education concentration includes courses in adventure leadership, teaching games, fitness activity courses, and more.
The special education concentration includes courses focused on the unique needs of students with disabilities across a variety of settings.
The Educational Studies program has more flexibility than a traditional education pathway for transfer students and those who do not need teacher certification as an undergraduate.
Students who wish to pursue certification at the graduate level may be able to participate in the accelerated M.A.T. program and finish with their master's degree in one extra year.

Graduates can go on to get an M.A.T. degree to become certified to teach, or pursue a number of education focused roles outside of the classroom including children’s museums, YMCA or Boys and Girls clubs, at-risk programs, and more.
