ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – A Spanish professor in the College of Arts and Sciences was recently elected as the new chair of Winthrop University’s Faculty Conference.

Adam Glover, an associate professor in the Department of World Languages and Cultures, was elected this spring to lead faculty and to serve as the faculty liaison to the university’s Board of Trustees. He will replace Education Professor Jennifer Jordan at the beginning of the new academic year in August.

The chair must be a full-time tenured faculty member, according to the faculty manual.

Glover joined the Winthrop faculty in 2013 and has distinguished himself as a prolific scholar and teacher. His interests are in theology, philosophy, literature, 19th- and 20th-century Latin American literature and Caribbean studies.

He is successful in teaching students across the academic spectrum, from introductory to advanced levels, and general education courses.

In addition, Glover has co-led two study abroad experiences, one in 2013 to Chile and in 2015 to Cuba. And he has covered new ground in his department in encouraging unique undergraduate research experiences.

He has been a key participant in the conception and realization of the Global Friends program to support Winthrop's global learning initiative to pair international students with other students interested in learning a second language or obtaining first-hand exposure to other cultures. He has worked on an immersion partnership with Rock Hill High School to help students earn dual credit. And, he has collaborated with other departments to create a new minor, Spanish for Law and the Helping Professions.

Glover was selected as the university’s 2017 Outstanding Junior Professor.

He holds a Ph.D. and master’s degree in Hispanic Studies, both from the University of Kentucky, and a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and Spanish from Georgetown College.
