ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Four alumni will become Winthrop University ambassadors as they serve for the first time on the Winthrop University Alumni Association Executive Board.
John K. DeLoache ’92, Sherille Godbolt Barber ’87, ’99, Steven K. Howell ’12, ’14 and Bryan Mobley Jr. ’17 are all serving their first term on the board and will partner with the Alumni Association to connect with more than 60,000 alumni.
“We are very excited to have four new members joining our board. Each one brings a unique skill set that will be a welcomed addition. We look forward to using their fresh perspective as well as ideas to encourage alumni engagement,” said Byron Putman ’94, president of the Winthrop Alumni Association.
Connie Graham ’76, ’78, ’83 is rolling off the board and has served on the board since 2012. View a list of the entire executive board here.

John K. DeLoache
John K. DeLoache is an attorney for South Carolina Association of Counties. He graduated from Winthrop in 1992 after studying political science. He went on to earn his master’s degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and juris doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law. As a student, he was involved in Model UN, the Political Science Club and the Reformed University Fellowship. DeLoache has stayed connected to Winthrop over the years, serving on panels with the West Forum on Politics and Policy and the political science department.
He is an active contributor to the Winthrop Fund and a member of the D.B. Johnson Society. He is also a member of several law-related organizations.
Sherille Godbolt Barber
Barber has been in the mental health field for over 35 years and is the owner of her own private practice and outpatient mental health agency, Barber Therapy & Associates. Established in 2007, the agency has three locations in Rock Hill, Charlotte and Gastonia. She is two-time graduate of Winthrop, earning her bachelor of arts in psychology and communication in 1987 and her masters in counseling and development in 1999. She has worked for York Place Group and several behavioral health agencies in Charlotte.
Barber is the immediate past president of the Rock Hill Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and also served as past regional officer for the sorority from 2018-2020. She has been active with Winthrop’s Black Alumni Council and has two daughters who currently attend the university. Her husband, Twan, is a 1987 and 1990 alumnus.
Barber recently completed her doctorate in advanced studies of human behavior from Capella University.
Steven K. Howell
Steven K. Howell is a CPA and two-time graduate, obtaining his political science degree in 2012 and his MBA in 2014. He is currently a partner with Heckard & Howell CPAs. As a student he was involved in several organizations, including Pi Kappa Phi, Omicron Delta Kappa, Pi Sigma Alpha and Theta Alpha Kappa. As an alumnus, he has served as an alumni volunteer and is involved with the Charlotte Young Alumni Council and the College of Business Administration’s mentoring program.
Howell actively volunteers with a number of community groups, offering financial and accounting expertise. He is also heavily involved in community service projects in Charlotte through Covenant Presbyterian Church’s young adult team.
Bryan L. Mobley Jr.
Bryan Mobley Jr. graduated from Winthrop in 2017 with a bachelor of arts degree in sociology and obtained his master’s degree in higher education leadership and administration from Capella University in 2019. He is a dedicated student affairs practitioner focused on advocating for and fostering campus communities that are diverse, inclusive and equitable for all. Mobley is an active member of various student affairs associations including the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA). During his time at Winthrop, Bryan participated in several student organizations, including the Council of Student Leaders (CSL), Winthrop Ambassador, NAACP and A. Bevy. As an alumnus, Mobley has served as a Young Alumni Council Leader in Charlotte and Rock Hill. He also regularly serves as a guest speaker for the sociology department.
He lends his knowledge of student development theories and social and cultural awareness issues to many local organizations. Mobley works closely with the Community Building Initiative in Charlotte which teaches individuals to build more equitable communities. He also mentors young black and Latino males.
