ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Every year, passionate Winthrop University supporters come together for 24 hours to show their pride (Bleed Garnet) and help pave the way for future Eagles (Give Gold).

This year’s event, beginning at noon on April 16 and ending at noon on April 17, will have a slight twist: The nonprofit OneBlood’s Bloodmobile will be on campus from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. both days, encouraging supporters to literally Bleed Garnet for a good cause and then continue the philanthropic spirit by making a donation. Representatives from the Division of University Advancement will be tabling on Scholars Walk to let people know more about how they can change the lives of students, support remarkable educators and give back to programs that make a difference to Winthrop and the community.

Fundraisers have set a goal of inspiring 1,000 donors to give back this year, which will help “unlock” more funds for the university via creative donor challenges and matching gifts. Once the university reaches that 1,000 number, it will unlock an additional gift from the Board of Trustees. Other matches and challenges include:

*An anonymous donor will match 3:1 for up to $45,000 for the College of Visual and Performing Arts’ Tuition Grant Fund;

*100 donations to the Richard W. Riley College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences unlock a $10,000 gift from an anonymous donor;

*An anonymous donor will match 1:1 up to $5,000 each for the Gay Randolph and Jerry Padgett funds in the College of Business Administration;

*Once 15 donors have donated to any University College-associated funds, a $5,000 gift from Professor Emerita Gloria Jones will be unlocked;

*An anonymous Winthrop parent will match gifts 1:1 up to $5,000 for the West Center pool renovation; and more!

As in past years, donors will be able to give to designated areas that mean the most to them. That includes student scholarships, athletic programs, academic colleges and departments, and other programs like undergraduate research.

Make a gift during Bleed Garnet, Give Gold to support Winthrop!
