Annual York County CROP Hunger Walk to Start at Winthrop’s Dinkins Hall

ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – South Carolina’s oldest CROP Hunger Walk will take place on Sunday, Nov. 7, at Winthrop University in what is the event’s 44th anniversary.

The 2021 walk is planned as an in-person event to continue the fight against hunger and poverty in the community as well as globally. Walkers also can feel free to participate virtually if they prefer by walking in their own neighborhoods.

York County’s CROP Hunger Walk has raised more than $811,000 in 43 years. Funds from this year’s walk will support the local programs of Pilgrims’ Inn, Tender Hearts Ministries and the Clover Area Assistance Center along with the global hunger-fighting programs of Church World Service in 35 countries.

The walk will start at Winthrop’s Dinkins Hall with sign-in/registration opening at 2 p.m., and the walk starting at 3 p.m. The in-person venue will abide by all safety measures required for the gathering of groups by the city of Rock Hill/state of South Carolina as well as the guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

There is no fee to participate, but walkers are encouraged to raise funds for hunger relief. Walkers and teams can sign up online here. Participants also are encouraged to bring canned food items to the event which will be donated to local food pantries.
