The group will celebrate its 50th anniversary in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 2021.
ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Winthrop University Graduate School Dean Jack DeRochi has been elected to serve as president of the Conference of Southern Graduate Schools.
The organization’s membership is comprised of more than 200 graduate schools in 15 Southeastern states and the District of Columbia.
Its purpose is to provide support for the dissemination of information, promotion of standards, encouragement of research and overall advocacy of graduate education across the region. In addition, the conference serves as a liaison with other national and regional educational bodies on behalf of the institutional members.
The group will celebrate its 50th anniversary in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 2021.
"I am excited about taking on this important role and further leading the great work of the Conference of Southern Graduate Schools,” said DeRochi, who is also associate vice president for academic outreach. He will serve a one-year term. “I look forward to further developing our relationship with the Council of Historically Black Graduate Schools and helping support an agenda that focuses on graduate degree completion."
DeRochi became dean of the Graduate School at Winthrop University in July 2012 after serving as associate dean in the College of Arts and Sciences. A tenured English professor, DeRochi has taught classes on the British novel, drama and satire, and has researched 18th-century drama.
He received his Ph.D. in Restoration and 18th-century British literature from the University of South Carolina.
