ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA- Since releasing his book "Diploma Mills: How For-Profit Colleges Stiffed Students, Taxpayers, and the American
Dream" in January, Winthrop University Professor of Curriculum and Pedagogy A.J. Angulo
has been featured on Inside Higher Ed and Sirius XM radio.
Now, people can hear from Angulo on April 7 in the last installment of the 2015-16
Provost's Spotlight on Scholarship Series. The series, in its second year, highlights
outstanding faculty research.
In his lecture "Merchants of Knowledge: The Rise of For-Profit Colleges and Universities in America,"
Angulo will explore the history of these institutions and what can be learned from
them. The for-profit higher education industry is currently a $30 billion industry.
Angulo is the Elizabeth Singleton Endowed Professor of Education at Winthrop. His
other research areas include international and global education, reform politics and
policy, and education law. He's written three other books and has presented papers
at national and international conferences such as the History of Education Society
and the European Society for the History of Science.
This "Lunch and Learn" session will be held at 11 a.m. in Dinkins Auditorium. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lunch. Beverages will be provided.
