ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA - Four Winthrop University students received the President's Award for Academic Excellence at the May 7 undergraduate Commencement morning ceremony at Winthrop Coliseum.

President Dan Mahony announced that John W. Barrera of Florence, South Carolina, biology; Lauren A. Goodwin of Blythewood, South Carolina, social work; Zane M. Repp of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, psychology; and Kathryn V. Steverson of Summerville, South Carolina, biology, finished with the highest cumulative GPA.

Both Barrera and Steverson will pursue medical degrees - Barrera at the University of South Carolina program in Greenville and Steverson at the USC program in Columbia. Repp plans to apply for clinical psychology graduate programs, while Goodwin wants to earn a master's degree in higher education student affairs.
