Galleries Opening Reception Celebrates Student Work

ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA - Friday, April 15, will be a special day for the Winthrop University Galleries: it's the opening reception for three exhibits highlighting student work.

The reception, which will be from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Rutledge, Elizabeth Dunlap Patrick and Lewandowski Galleries, as well as the Rutledge Building first floor hallways, will celebrate the 28th Annual Undergraduate Juried Exhibition, the M.F.A. Thesis Exhibition and the Department of Fine Arts Senior Exhibition. Master of Fine Arts candidate and exhibiting artist Vivianne Lee Carey will perform at the reception at 6:45 p.m., followed by the Juried Exhibition's award ceremony at 7 p.m.

It is a free and open to the public.

However, you don't have to wait until then to see these unique and inspiring pieces.

2016 Fine Arts Senior Exhibition

Lewandowski Student Gallery, McLaurin Hall/first floor hallways, Rutledge Building
This exhibition represents a key component in capstone courses for students earning their Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees. Throughout the semester, students develop professional websites and work together on a group exhibition that illustrates their conceptual and artistic growth.

M.F.A Thesis Exhibition — "Fault Lines": Vivianne Lee Carey, Lee Ann Harrison, Tom Seay

Elizabeth Dunlap Patrick Gallery, Rutledge Building
This exhibit features new works by artists completing their Master of Fine Arts programs. M.F.A. candidates Vivianne Lee Carey, Lee Ann Harrison and Tom Seay will discuss their work "Fault Lines." Candidates will discuss their work during an artist talk in the Patrick Gallery at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 21.

28th Annual Undergraduate Juried Exhibition

Rutledge Gallery, Rutledge Building
(Reopens Aug 15-19.)
Each spring, students submit their recent work to the Undergraduate Juried Exhibition in the hopes of being selected by a prominent regional juror for exhibition in a professional gallery setting. The selected pieces cover all areas of the visual arts, including painting, photography, printmaking, illustration, sculpture and jewelry/metals.

This year's juror is Christa Cammaroto, director of the Projective Eye Gallery at UNC-Charlotte.
