Winthrop University Graduate School Dean Jack DeRochi said the S.C. Graduate Deans
Association is promoting the week to emphasize the economic, cultural and community
contributions of those with advanced degrees. An annual open house on Wednesday, Feb. 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. in McBryde Hall. The
event will include poster presentations with examples of graduate research completed
by Winthrop students.
ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA — Universities and colleges across South Carolina will observe
Graduate Education Week in the Palmetto State Feb. 15-19.
The S.C. Graduate Deans Association is promoting the week to emphasize the economic, cultural and community contributions
of those with advanced degrees.
"Winthrop is pleased to participate in this initiative of the S.C. Graduate Deans
Association to promote our outstanding graduate and certificate programs and the
economic and cultural contributions of those with advanced degrees," said Winthrop President Dan Mahony. "Since 1912 Winthrop's Graduate School has provided the academic preparation that
empowers our graduates to become leaders in their fields, and in their communities.
And we are committed to working with local businesses to ensure Winthrop offers the
programs their employees need."
Each university or college will sponsor its own activities this year and will work
for joint activities next year, said Graduate School Dean Jack DeRochi said. "We want to make more visible the many contributions here in York County and
the surrounding region of those who earn Winthrop graduate degrees and make an economic,
cultural and creative impact as part of an educated work force," he said.
At Winthrop, the Graduate School will host:
- A Graduate School Advisory Board gathering, along with advisory board members' invited friends, in the Tuttle Dining
Room on Tuesday, Feb. 16. Board members include graduate alumni, and business and
community leaders. The group will hear from President Dan Mahony, DeRochi and from the leadership from four graduate programs (social work, business
administration, fine arts and educational leadership). M.F.A. candidate Anastasia Netrebine will create a work of art specifically for the Feb. 16 event.
