ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA A Winthrop University employee who turned her love of reading and books into a multi-decade career has died.

Ann Guy Thomas, a library technical assistant in Dacus Library, passed away on Jan. 5 after a short battle with cancer. She was 70 years old.

Born in Keyser, West Virginia, Thomas joined the Winthrop community in 1988 and served in various roles, most notably as an interlibrary loan assistant, becoming great friends with her coworkers and students alike.

Friends noted Thomas' amazing ability to recall names and dates, and her interest in people. They described her as someone always ready to lend an ear to others' stories, especially ones about their children and pets. In fact, Thomas had always had at least one pet since childhood, currently her beloved dogs, Paco and Pookie.

Her greatest joy in life was her son, Timothy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Humane Society of York County, 8177 Regent Parkway, Fort Mill, S.C., 29715; or to Philadelphia United Methodist Church, 1691 West Highway 160, Fort Mill, S.C., 29708.
