Long-time Winthrop Groundskeeper Passes Away Over the Weekend

ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA — Justin Christopher, a groundskeeper who worked at the Winthrop University Lake Area Recreational and Research Complex, commonly known as The Farm, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 6. Christopher, who was 35 years old, died from a cardiac event at his home.

In a Nov. 8 campus-wide e-mail, Walter Hardin, associate vice president for facilities management, recalled that Christopher "had been a loyal and faithful employee of Winthrop University for the last 16 years on the grounds team, and was an avid South Pointe High School and USC Gamecock football fan. He spent most of his time with family and friends, always had a smile on his face, and never met a stranger."

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at GreeneFuneral Home Northwest Chapel from 6-7:30 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Mount Holly United Methodist Church Sanctuary. A private burial will be held on Thursday, Nov. 10.
