Mass Communication Days Feature Alumni and Other Sessions

ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – The Department of Mass Communication at Winthrop University will hold its annual MCOM Days Oct. 23-24 to share alumni stories and tips from area professionals.

There will be a presentation by marketing agency Chernoff Newman, an influencer panel, an alumni panel and a speech by the department’s alumna of the year, Anna Douglas ‘11.

Here is the schedule:

·       Monday, Oct. 23
11 a.m.-12:15 p.m., 117 Johnson Hall 
Chernoff Newman Marketing Agency Presentation 
This presentation will feature Chernoff Newman employees Savannah Scott ’21, a graduate of Winthrop and a public relations and social media specialist in Charleston, South Carolina, with more than two years of experience, and Alicia Broughton, a graduate of Clemson University and a senior public relations and social media specialist with nearly 10 years of public relations and social media experience.

Influencer Panel
Alisha Brantley, Ned Hildebrandt and Portia Blackman will share their tips on creating content.

Presentation by MCOM Alumna of the Year Anna Douglas ’11
Douglas is The Charlotte Observer’s deputy managing editor and a past S.C. Press Association Journalist of the Year.

Alumni Panel Speaking on Career Development 
Panelists include: Ashley Briggs ’17, a two-time Emmy-winning award journalist who works at Queen City News in Charlotte; Will Richard ’16, a social media coordinator at Lavonia Speedway, Cherokee Speedway and the Carolina Spring Tour; Emily Gill ’17, the marketing and communications specialist for Blue Ridge Community College in Hendersonville, North Carolina; and Hallie Brown ’19, a multimedia communication specialist for the city of Greenville, South Carolina.
