ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Winthrop University’s student body has elected its Council of Student Leaders (CSL) chair and vice chair for the 2022-23 academic year: Miguel Caldwell (chair) and Karl Vogl (vice chair).

The two aren’t new to the CSL scene: Caldwell served as vice chair and Vogl as secretary this past year.

Their platform, “Engage, Enable, Empower,” promises to uplift students by engaging them in the Winthrop experience, enabling them to address leadership challenges and empowering them to leave a positive impact that will serve the university for years to come.

So, how will they do that?

During the campaign, Caldwell noted that student engagement in leadership and other opportunities had declined, spurred by the pandemic. They hope to work with student organizations on more cross-campus collaborative efforts, increased meaningful programming and more visible communication.

“Karl and I know the issues that students are facing because we are right there with them,” Caldwell explained. “Students should know that we are ready to voice the concerns and fight for the wellbeing of the students here. We've already been able to see accomplishments serving [in CSL], so we only intend to keep elevating in our new roles. However, we can't do it alone! This is our university, so we want the students to be engaged in the process of making Winthrop a better place for us and for generations of students to come.”
