ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Dan Goods, the visual strategist for NASA, will inspire Winthrop University seniors graduating with illustration and graphic design degrees during an April 11 appearance.
Goods will be the keynote speaker at Winthrop’s Senior Portfolio show held Thursday, April 11, at 6 p.m. at the Sugar Creek Brewing Company in Charlotte, North Carolina.
For the first time, the event will include portfolios of all graduating students in the Department of Design, including the interaction design and interior design seniors, according to Department Chair Chad Dresbach. Twenty-two seniors will present their work and be available to talk about their creations.
Goods also will present a workshop/critique with senior design students on April 10 in Charlotte.
At NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab, Goods leads a team responsible for developing creative ways of communicating and working to transform complex concepts into meaningful stories that can be universally understood. Their work is seen in public spaces, art museums and is in outer space.
Goods said he is passionate about creating moments in people’s lives where they are reminded of the gift and privilege of being alive.
His projects include putting the size of the galaxy into perspective by drilling a hole in a grain of sand and creating a light installation that captures just how difficult it is to discover planets behind stars. The TED talk speaker works on other creative problem solving projects around the world. He is currently developing the "Museum of Awe” with David Delgado and Ivan Amato. In 2012, Goods was selected as “one of the most interesting people in Los Angeles” by the LA Weekly.
