ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA - Brandon Hardy is everything you imagine the perfect student
to be: smart, athletic and charming. As the golden boy of St. Joe's Preparatory School,
Hardy has his Ivy League future all figured outuntil a school scandal rocks his prep-school
world.
"Good Boys and True," the newest production from Winthrop University's Department of Theatre and Dance, examines how difficult it can be to separate fact from fiction, especially about
those we know and love best.
The student-led production opens March 23 in Johnson Studio Theatre under the helm of student-director Jasmine Gunter, a theatre major from Columbia.
Fort Mill theatre major Andrew White steps into the main role of Brandon, a young man completely adored by his mother,
Elizabeth (Tessa Zimmerman, theatre, Columbia). One day, Football Coach Shea calls Elizabeth into his office
and shows her a shocking video depicting a man who may or may not be Brandon engaging
in illicit acts with an unidentified woman. He needs her to verify Brandon's identity
before proceeding, causing Elizabeth to wonder what she really knows about her son.
"Good Boys and True" was written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
Show times are 8 p.m. March 23-26 and 2 p.m. March 27. Tickets are $5 with a Winthrop
ID for the March 23-24 shows and $10 without. The March 25-27 shows are $8 with a
Winthrop ID or $15 for the general public. It is a cultural event.
Tickets can be purchased online or at the box office. Reserved seating for Johnson
Studio Theatre is not available.
