This year's Eastern York County CROP Walk will feature a 3.5 mile route similar to
that of last year's walk. Participants will gather on the Dinkins Hall lawn at Winthrop
University and travel down Oakland Ave. and throughout downtown Rock Hill. Registration for the CROP Walk will begin at 2 p.m. and the walk kicks off at 3 p.m.
Prior to the kick off, walkers will be treated to various interactive and educational
activities.
ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA — South Carolina's oldest CROP Walk will take place Nov. 6 in what is the event's 39th anniversary.
Rev. Ricky Howell, organizer and a United Methodist campus minister with the Winthrop Wesley Foundation,
said this year's Eastern York County CROP Walk will feature a 3.5 mile route similar to that of last year's walk. Participants will
gather on the Dinkins Hall lawn at Winthrop University and travel down Oakland Ave. and throughout downtown Rock Hill.
Registration for the CROP Walk will begin at 2 p.m. and the walk kicks off at 3 p.m.
Prior to the kick off, walkers will be treated to various interactive and educational
activities.
This year's CROP Walk will feature the return of CanStruction, a competition encouraging groups to create sculptures out of canned food items.
Participants in the CROP Walk will view the creations at St. John's United Methodist
Church in downtown Rock Hill and vote on their favorite between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The creations are made by youth and college student groups. After the walk, the canned
food items will be donated to local food pantries.
There will also be a Western York County CROP Walk on Oct. 16, beginning at 3 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in York.
York County's CROP Walks have raised nearly $750,000 in 38 years, with more than $185,000
remaining with local agencies.
CROP Walk is the community hunger appeal of Church World Service. The organization represents 36 Protestant, Orthodox and Anglican churches in the
United States working with indigenous churches and organizations in more than 80 countries.
There is no admission price for the walk, but participants are encouraged to bring
at least one canned food item to be distributed to a local food pantry.
