Second Annual Graduate Education Week Set for Feb. 13-17

ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA — Universities and colleges across South Carolina will observe the second annual S.C. Graduate Education Week across the Palmetto State the week of Feb. 13-17.

Sponsored by the S.C. Graduate Deans Association, the week emphasizes the economic, cultural and community contributions of graduate programs and students across the state.

Winthrop Graduate School Dean Jack DeRochi said the university is looking forward to this second annual week. "Faculty and staff from across the university have worked together to develop fun and informative events that truly showcase the important contributions of our graduate students and programs," he said.

At Winthrop, the Graduate School will host:

Monday, Feb. 13 - Regalia Day

All faculty and staff who hold graduate degrees are encouraged to wear their academic regalia as a way to kick off "Graduate Education Week." An important aspect of the week, Regalia Day will provide a visual representation of the role graduate education has played in the lives of so many who work at Winthrop.

Tuesday, Feb. 14 - Why Graduate Education Matters — Panel discussion, 11 a.m., Plowden Auditorium

Open to the public, this panel discussion features a graduate faculty member from each of the four academic colleges speaking on the importance of graduate education in their fields as well as in its service to the community.

Wednesday, Feb. 15 - Open House and Academic Showcase, 5:30 p.m., Richardson Ballroom, DiGiorgio Campus Center
Open to the public, this event invites members of the community and prospective students to learn more about all of the graduate programs at Winthrop.

Thursday, Feb. 16 - Graduate Music Recital, 11 a.m., Barnes Recital Hall
Performances by graduate students in music. This event is free and open to the public.
