Family Day will begin with a light breakfast and a welcome from President Dan Mahony and several key administrators in the Richardson Ballroom in the DiGiorgio Campus Center.

An academic showcase, called “A Look Behind the Academic Curtain,” will follow at 11 a.m. at six different locations. Guests will then head to the front lawn by Byrnes Auditorium to enjoy a noon picnic and family-oriented activities on Kinard Lawn. The rain location for lunch is the Richardson Ballroom.

Afternoon activities from 2-5 p.m. include new events: an Iron Chef cooking competition among family members in the Dalton Hall kitchen, a tree-planting across campus, and a battleship competition in the West Center pool. Elsewhere on campus, there will be an archives exhibit in the Little Chapel, rock climbing at the West Center, pumpkin decorating, family competitions and men and women’s soccer games. Participants who pre-register can attend events around York County, such as the Windy Hill Orchard & Cider Mill tour in York, Striker’s Family Sports Center, and the Legal Remedy Brewery tour on Oakland Avenue.

On the evening of Oct. 7, students and family members can see the Winthrop theatre and dance department’s production of “HAIR: The Musical” at Johnson Hall Theatre, while the DiGiorgio Campus Center will show a Disney double feature of the 1991 and 2017 versions of “Beauty and the Beast.” Or, groups can head to the SCarowinds Halloween Haunt.
