U.S. Census Director Tapped for Winthrop Alumni Association Facebook Live Panel

ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – The Winthrop University Alumni Association continues its informative and fun Facebook Live panel series on Oct. 14 with “Shape Your Future: United States 2020 Census,” an inside, alumni-led look at this important initiative.

Panelists are:

*Steven Dillingham ’73, director, U.S. Census Bureau

*Dominic Beamer ’09, branch chief, U.S. Census Bureau

*Ashlei Stevens ’04, 2020 U.S. Census media relations

Katarina Moyon, director of the John C. West Forum on Politics & Policy, which is housed at Winthrop, will serve as the event moderator.

All are invited to watch the hour-long panel on the Winthrop Alumni Association Facebook page beginning at 7 p.m. Questions for the panelists can be submitted live by posting them in the comment section during the live stream.

Participation in the 2020 Census helps produce accurate, reliable statistics on employment, infrastructure, education, economic opportunities and other important characteristics of communities. This information helps policymakers, local officials, companies and organizations understand and assess the resources and needs of the people, places and businesses in communities across the country.

"The Facebook Live panels have been a fantastic opportunity to showcase our alumni and faculty and address topics that are relevant to today's climate," said Lori Tuttle, executive director of alumni relations and reunion giving. "Winthrop is proud to have an alumnus lead the 2020 U.S. Census, and we look forward to this panel discussion."

Past live panels have included topics such as working from home, how educators are adapting to the “new norm,” understanding issues in the 2020 Election and more.

*Nov. 11, noon: “The March for Justice: Winthrop Women Faculty and Their Struggle for Equal Pay, 1915-1920”

Featuring Professor of History Eddie Lee ’83 and Gina Price White ’83, director of the Louise Pettus Archives and Special Collections

*Nov. 12, noon: Louise Pettus Archives and Special Collections Memorabilia Exhibit

Archives' staff members will highlight and discuss interesting items of Winthrop memorabilia.
