Winthrop Board Approves Emeritus Status for Faculty, Supports Latest Tenure, Promotions

  • The 13 faculty members who were granted emeritus status have a combined total of 308 years of service, according to Provost Debra Boyd.

  • The Board of Trustees also supported the nominations for tenure and promotion as presented by the Division of Academic Affairs.

Debra BoydROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA — The Winthrop University Board of Trustees approved 13 recently retired or retiring faculty members for emeritus status and heard about the latest faculty promotions at its June 28 board meeting.

The 13 faculty members who were granted emeritus status have a combined total of 308 years of service, according to Provost Debra Boyd.

They are: Janice Bradner, instructor of music; G. David Brown, associate professor of design; Qidong “Jordan” Cao, professor of quantitative methods; Janice Chism, professor of biology; Laura Dufresne, professor of art history; Cynthia Forrest, associate professor of social work; Karen Kedrowski, professor of political science; Kathy Lyon, professor of psychology; Clara Paulino, associate professor of interdisciplinary studies; Donald Rogers, professor of music; Spiro Shetuni, professor of library science; Sue Spencer, associate professor of education; and William Thacker, professor of computer science.

The Board of Trustees also supported the nominations for tenure and promotion as presented by the Division of Academic Affairs.

The 13 faculty members granted tenure are: in the College of Arts and Sciences, Zach Abernathy, mathematics; Diana Boyer, geology; Monique Constance-Huggins, social work; Adriana Cordis, accounting; Philip Gibson, finance; Adam Glover, Spanish; Tracy Patterson, music; Duane Neff, social work; Andrew Seth Rouser, fine arts; Mary Slade, curriculum and pedagogy; and Matthew Stern, biology; and in the College of Business Administration, Stephanie Lawson, marketing, and Nicki Washington, computer science.

There were 12 faculty members promoted to professor or associate professor.

Promoted to the rank of professor are College of Arts and Sciences faculty members Diana Boyer, geology; Robert Prickett, English; Frank Pullano, mathematics; and Jeff Sinn, psychology.

Promoted to the rank of associate professor from assistant professor are: in the College of Arts and Sciences, Fatima Amir, physics; Monique Constance-Huggins, social work; Adam Glover, Spanish; Duane Neff, social work; and Matthew Stern, biology; in the College of Business Administration, Stephanie Lawson, marketing; and in the Richard W. Riley College of Education, Joni Boyd and David Schary, both of exercise science.
