ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – A Winthrop University partnership with Walk2Campus Properties with offer select upperclassmen the chance to live in nearby CampusWalk apartments while still enjoying the benefits of on-campus living for the 2023-24 academic year. Winthrop has secured a minimum of 58 beds at CampusWalk to help the university manage a surge in requests for on-campus housing as fall enrollment at the Rock Hill campus ticks up.

“We are pleased to offer this option to continuing students who desire an apartment setting while still benefitting from an experienced residential life staff who are poised to offer the support that we know contributes to student success,” noted Shelia Burkhalter, Winthrop’s vice president for student affairs. “Our already positive working relationship with Walk2Campus bodes well for this arrangement which will help a number of students and allow us to manage the desire of students to live on campus.”

Eligible upperclassmen students are currently on the waitlist for the Courtyard, which is next door to CampusWalk, a large residential facility located at 620 Rose Street which is managed by Walk2Campus Properties. Winthrop’s partnership with Walk2Campus will allow students to pay the Courtyard housing rate directly to Winthrop. Students will be provided all of the support offered through Winthrop’s Department of Residence Life, including an on-site resident assistant (RA), programming, security, and more.

Brian Ullrich, president and CFO of Walk2Campus, said the company is delighted to house additional Winthrop students.

“We've worked closely with our university partners in several college towns across multiple states over the past two decades, so this type of opportunity fits perfectly within our mission of serving students, parents, universities and towns. More so, being headquartered in Rock Hill and having an opportunity to serve as a ‘local’ solution to Winthrop University feels even better."

The furnished CampusWalk apartments include a full kitchen and living room.  Residents will also have access to on-site parking, a pool, fitness room, and community laundry room. CampusWalk will manage the property itself and any facilities issues. Students will be expected to have an on-campus meal plan as is required for all residential students.

“We see this as a win-win, providing more of our students with the type of residential experience they want while keeping them close to campus,” Burkhalter said. “We appreciate this partnership with a trusted property management company that shares many of our Winthrop values including a commitment to the student experience, community relations, sustainability, and customer service.”
