Winthrop Named to Money Magazine's Best Colleges for Value

ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA — Winthrop University recently was named to Money Magazine's "Best Colleges for Your Money 2018."

To determine the rankings, the magazine reviewed the nation's roughly 2,000 four-year colleges and universities to discover which ones provide the best value for the money. The magazine screened out those that have a below-average graduation rate, financial difficulty or fewer than 500 students and then ranked the 727 that remained on 26 factors in three categories: educational quality, affordability and alumni success. Winthrop made the list of colleges and universities that made the final cut.

"Receiving this third-party endorsement by Money Magazine reinforces Winthrop's goal of keeping the cost of college within reach for families, a goal that is prioritized in the Winthrop Plan, the university's strategic plan. We have always strived to provide the high quality Winthrop experience that is accessible to all students," said President Dan Mahony.

Over the past decade, Winthrop has consistently received third-party endorsements for its value, academic quality and sustainability efforts. U.S. News & World Report has named Winthrop one of the South's top 10 public universities that convey bachelor's and master's degrees in its "America's Best Colleges" edition for nearly three decades. Barron's Best Buys has included Winthrop in its rankings, Washington Monthly has named Winthrop a "best bang for the buck," and Princeton Review regularly lists the university among best Southeastern colleges.
