ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Winthrop University is once again considered among the Princeton Review’s “Best in the Southeast.”

Winthrop is one of 142 schools that the company recommends in its online feature "2021 Best Colleges: Region by Region.”

The university is noted for its campus beauty, diverse student body and small class sizes. Other complimentary mentions include the Lois Rhame West Health, Physical Education and Wellness Center, the university’s cultural event requirement and the caliber of the faculty.

“It’s gratifying to see that our Princeton Review profile highlights just a few of the many qualities and characteristics upon which Winthrop prides itself,” said Interim President George W. Hynd. “I’m grateful that the Princeton Review recognizes our student-centered community and how it reflects all that we value in higher education. I look forward to continuing our momentum even with a challenging academic year ahead of us amidst COVID-19.”

The Princeton Review compiles its list based on institutional data collected directly from the colleges, visits to schools, input from college counselors and the opinions of the Princeton Review's staff. Students rated their own schools and answered questions about themselves, their peers and campus life. Schools selected by the publication as "Best Colleges" are considered "academically outstanding and well worth consideration."

The schools in the "2021 Best Colleges: Region by Region" list also are rated in six categories - academics, admissions selectivity, financial aid, fire safety, quality of life and green adaptability. Criteria for each rating is available here.
