ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – The holiday season for Rock Hill will begin on Friday, Dec. 1, with Winthrop University’s 88th Annual Tree Lighting.

Beginning at 6 p.m. on Tillman Hall’s front lawn, students, faculty, staff and the surrounding community will watch dazzling and festive performances from the Winthrop RockHettes, the Winthrop Chorale and the Collegiate Choir.

The entertainment prefaces the main attraction: when the beautiful Southern magnolia tree takes on its seasonal glow!

This year’s tree lighting will be a little different. To ensure the long-term health of the beloved Southern magnolia tree, the tree will be illuminated with projected colored LED lights instead of the traditional string lights.

The Student Alumni Council will sell luminaries for $5 before the tree lighting to add to the holiday glow around Tillman. Proceeds from the luminaries will support the Winthrop Fund.

After the tree lighting, attendees can then turn their attention to Rock Hill’s Christmas Parade, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. along Oakland Avenue.

If you can’t attend the tree lighting, you can tune in to the Alumni Association’s Facebook Live stream of the event.
