ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA -- This spring, the Winthrop University Galleries will host five events with prominent photographers to discuss their work.
"The strength of our photography faculty exhibitions by Mark Hamilton and Phil Moody marked the perfect opportunity to create a dialogue about the power
of photography," said Karen Derksen, Winthrop Galleries director. "We are bringing a variety of talented speakers to
engage the community and our students in a discussion about today's changing world
through this medium."
Events began in January and will continue through early March. All events are in 119 Rutledge Building unless otherwise noted. All are free and approved cultural events.

WUG Artist Talk: One Million Reasons Not To Take A Photograph by Eric Pickersgill
Creator of the viral photographic series "Removed," Eric Pickersgill discusses his
work and ideas about the role of the artist in the digital age. How does one find
meaning in the common and a voice within the crowd?
Thursday, Feb. 9, 7 p.m.
WUG Artist Talk: David Houston, Art Historian/Curator
David Houston is a photographer with a strong background in art history and curating.
He is currently the head of the Bo Bartlett Center, a contemporary gallery and learning
center in downtown Columbus, Georgia.
Thursday, Feb. 23, 11 a.m.
WUG Artist Talk: Rob Amberg, photographer
Rob Amberg will discuss his lifetime project of writing about and photographing the
evolving culture and environment of Madison County, North Carolina. His work largely
focuses on rural communities, family farms and the environment.
Wednesday, March 1, 7 p.m.
WUG Artist Talk: Phil Moody, photographer and Winthrop professor of fine arts
"Eye to Eye" now showing through March 10 in the Rutledge Gallery.
Phil Moody, a long-standing professor at Winthrop, received an M.F.A. in photography
from the University of Michigan and has been exhibited throughout the United States
and Europe. His artwork appears in numerous collections including Bank of America,
B.F. Goodrich, Scottish Arts Council and the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.
