WHEREAS, Karl A. Folkens, has served with unstinting dedication as the Chair of the Winthrop University Board
of Trustees for three terms, 2005 through 2008; and
WHEREAS, during his term as Chair of the Board, he lent advice and counsel on significant
University projects such as the construction of the Lois Rhame West Health and Wellness
Center; the design and construction of the Owens Hall classroom facility and the planning
and design of the Student Center; and
WHEREAS, his tenure as Chair of the Winthrop University Board of Trustees has been
characterized by his tireless dedication, vigorous advocacy and resolute commitment
to educational advancement at Winthrop University, his work will long be evident in
the achievements of the University in such areas as our growing national reputation,
our dedication to providing national caliber, accredited programs and our promise
to create exemplary campus living and learning communities while maintaining the diversity
of the student body;
THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED that the Trustees, the President, and the Winthrop University
faculty, staff and students do hereby convey their deep respect and profound gratitude
to Karl A. Folkens, and do commend him for outstanding meritorious services as Chair
of the Board of Trustees of Winthrop University.
