RESOLUTION TO HONOR MR. WILLIAM BRIEN LEWIS FOR MERITORIOUS SERVICE TO WINTHROP UNIVERSITY

WHEREAS, Winthrop University with grateful appreciation, does hereby acknowledge, commend, and honor the twelve years of service to the University by Mr. William Brien Lewis in many capacities including Executive Assistant to the President and Secretary to the Winthrop University Board of Trustees, founding dean of University College, and most recently as Vice President of Development and Alumni Affairs; and

WHEREAS, during his tenure, he coordinated Board policy and activities and served as a presidential liaison to a variety of University constituencies as well as served as chair of the President's Task Force on the Nature and Character of the University to help make long-range plans for Winthrop; and

WHEREAS, as the founding Dean of University College he oversaw the development of the University's Common Book Project, the development of the Office of Nationally Competitive Awards, and Winthrop's first TRiO grant from the U.S. Department of Education; and

WHEREAS, in his position as Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations he was instrumental in the creation of Distinction: The Campaign for Winthrop celebrating the three ideals of honoring the past, engaging the present and enabling the future. Under his direction the campaign, only the second in Winthrop's history, has already earned over $36 million toward the final goal of $50 million;

THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED that the Trustees, the President, and the Winthrop University faculty, staff and students do hereby convey their deep respect and profound gratitude to Mr. William Brien Lewis, and do commend him for outstanding meritorious service to higher education in general and Winthrop in particular and wish him well as he assumes the presidency of Catawba College.
