WHEREAS, the mission of the department of Interdisciplinary Studies is to challenge
our students to think deeply; embrace difference and diversity; and seek a broad understanding
of other peoples, perspectives, beliefs, and values; to prepare our students for life,
learning, and leadership in an interconnected and globalized world; and to enable
our students to explore and understand an ever-increasing body of knowledge across
multiple disciplines; and
WHEREAS, the proposed program in Individualized Studies will provide a challenging
and rigorous program for students whose academic interests reach across or beyond
the major programs currently offered by the university; and
WHEREAS, both prospective and current students have expressed an interest in developing
individualized degree programs, and Winthrop University is interested in considering
a response to this new generation of student; and
WHEREAS, the proposed degree is consistent with Winthrop University's Mission Statement
wherein the University seeks to provide "personalized and challenging undergraduate,
graduate, and continuing professional education programs of national caliber within
a context dedicated to public service to the State of South Carolina;"
THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED that the Bachelor of Arts in Individualized Studies
be established.
