Resolution Regarding 2020-2021 Performance Evaluation of Interim President Dr. George W. Hynd

WHEREAS, in accordance with Board Bylaws, the Executive Committee met on June 11, 2021 to conduct the annual performance review of the President of Winthrop University as mandated by the State Agency Head Salary Commission; and

WHEREAS, the Executive Committee reviewed the responses to the State Agency Head Performance Survey submitted by the individual Trustees and reviewed the President's performance in terms of the Performance Planning Objectives; and

WHEREAS, the Trustees concluded that Interim President Hynd should receive the rating of exceeds expectations in the Board's formal evaluation to be submitted to the State Agency Head Salary Commission based on his stewardship of Winthrop University through the COVID-19 pandemic, the development of an Academic Master Plan, the beginning stages of the Campus Facilities Master Plan, a Campus Beautification Plan, and an evaluation of Winthrop’s Strategic Plan; and

WHEREAS, under the guidance of President Hynd, Winthrop University is making expected progress toward the upcoming Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges Reaffirmation Process with Career Readiness selected as Winthrop’s Quality Enhancement Program; and

WHEREAS, President Hynd led the university in the difficult task of implementing a furlough program for AY 2020-21 in order to generate $3 million in savings.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Trustees at Winthrop University that in its formal 4.41 evaluation of the performance of Dr. George W. Hynd as Interim President of Winthrop University to be submitted to the State Agency Head Salary Commission, President Hynd will receive a rating of            and will be recommended to receive the maximum salary increase if such an increase was to be awarded by the Commission for 2021-2022.
